Starting on 1 March 2023 and lasting for 24 months, the main theme of the Town Twinning Program is "green future" and it is aimed to disseminate activities on climate and environment issues that are on the agenda at EU level and global platforms.
The main beneficiary of the program is Union of Municipalities of TÜRKİYE(UMT) and the key stakeholders are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for EU Affairs, Union of Provinces and Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change - General Directorate of Local Authorities. The Contracting Authority of the project is the Central Finance and Contracts Unit (CFCU).
The overall objective of the program is to enhance the dialogue between Turkish and EU local authorities and to strengthen the capacity of local authorities to implement climate and environment-based actions. The specific objective is to promote exchange and cooperation between Turkish local authorities and their counterparts in the EU on climate and environment-based actions.
Within the scope of the grant program with a total budget of €2.5 million, 26 projects aiming to strengthen sister city relations between local governments in TÜRKİYEand EU member states and the role of local governments in the EU integration process by working in the fields of climate change and environment are supported with grants.
These projects, which were developed in cooperation with municipalities, special provincial administrations, investment monitoring and coordination directorates from TÜRKİYEand local governments from EU member states, received a minimum of 60 thousand Euros and a maximum of 100 thousand Euros in grants. The projects are implemented under the coordination of the Union of Municipalities of TÜRKİYE. The projects, which started their implementation period on November 1, 2023, will be completed within 10 to 12 months.
