The action document for the Sustainable Urban Mobility and Reliable Transport Project (SUMART), to be financed by a blend of European Union (EU) Grants (€15 million) and a loan programme (€200 million) from the French Development Agency (AFD) under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA - III), has been published in the Official Gazette. The overall objective of the project, with ILBANK and Union of Municipalities of Türkiye as implementing partners, is to promote, improve and facilitate efforts to play an increasingly important role in sustaining sustainable and smart urban transport services in the urban jurisdictions of municipalities in Türkiye.
Under the project, various activities will be carried out, including technical assistance to key stakeholders, policy dialogue, awareness and promotion activities. The project will also promote the preparation of sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP) and the exchange of experiences and good practices in Türkiye, the EU and other candidate countries. It will also provide investment preparation (feasibility studies, design, environmental and social protection documents) and investment implementation support for sustainable and smart urban mobility projects. The project will focus on the development of integrated and innovative mobility pilot projects that will improve the integration of existing mobility structures with innovative mobility solutions. Thus, the project will stimulate municipal investments in the decarbonisation and digitalisation of urban mobility.
