Brussels Urban Summit was held in Brussels, Belgium between 12-15 June 2023 in cooperation with the “Champion Mayors Initiative for Inclusive Growth” of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Eurocities and Metropolis institutions. The Summit, which was attended by local and regional authorities’ representatives from all over the world, hosted sessions on various topics as well as administrative meetings of the aforementioned organizations.
Union of Municipalities of Türkiye participated with a delegation in a number of sessions and events organized within the scope of the Summit, mainly the session on "Consultation with Mayors after the Earthquake" organized by the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Executive Board and the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Regional Organization (UCLG-MEWA) in cooperation with Eurocites and Metropolis.
Our delegation including President of the Union and Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Yücel Yılmaz, President of the UCLG and Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, Mayor of Sancaktepe Municipality Şeyma Döğücü, Mayor of Safranbolu Municipality Elif Köse and Member of Keçiören Municipality Council Cemal Baş, participated in the UCLG Executive Board Meeting where the "Future Pact for Humanity", which serves as UCLG's roadmap for the 2022-2026 period and its commitments, as well as the changes in UCLG Policy Councils, UCLG Financial Management Committee and Statute Committee reports, strategic priorities and work program were evaluated.
The United Nations Development Agency (UNDP) also organized a stand-alone event entitled "Impacts and response to the earthquake disaster in Türkiye". Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, Deputy Secretary General of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Abdullah Aksoy, and Deputy Mayor of Kilis Municipality Mustafa Tohumcu, participated in the program and discussed the post-earthquake period, cooperation between municipalities and cooperation between central administration and municipalities.
