The 9th General Assembly of the World Water Council (WWC) was held in Paris, France, on 10-11 December. Director generals and managers from water and sewerage administrations attended the meeting under the coordination of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT).
On the first day of the meeting opening speeches were made. After that the agenda meeting prepared for the general assembly, the election committee nominations and the 2019-2022 activity reports were discussed. The task force and working groups made presentations for the participants. The importance of increasing cooperation between member countries was emphasized at the meeting.
Since the 10th World Water Council will be held in Bali, Indonesia in 2024, presentations were made by the Indonesian Delegation.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) with the participation of the Turkish delegation. The members were informed by making an agenda evaluation and strategy discussion before the election of the board of governors.
Within the scope of the meeting, the members of the board of governors were elected for the years 2023 and 2025. The election of the members in the World Water Council Board of Governors and the members in the administrative structures organized under the name of “College” were elected.
Three Turkish institutions became candidates in the elections. On behalf of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akça was elected to the board of governors. İrfan Aker was selected on behalf of Dolsar Engineering at the 2nd College. And in the 5th College (involving non-governmental organizations), the Turkish Contractors Association was elected as the “governor” for the bodies they were nominated for.
