The 43rd Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe were held in Strasbourg, France, on 24-27 October 2022.
On the first day of the Session meetings, Secretary General elections of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities took place. French candidate Mathieu Mori was elected as the new Secretary General.
Following the bureau and political group meetings, a reception was hosted by the Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Ambassador Kaan Esener. UMT Secretary General Dr. Hayri Baraçlı, Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Tahir Büyükakın, Mayor of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Yücel Yılmaz, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Director General for Local Authorities Turan Konak, Mayor of Karabük Rafet Vergili, Mayor of Büyükçekmece Hasan Akgün, Mayor of Yerköy Ferhat Yılmaz, Mayor of Akyurt Hilal Ayık, Seyhan Municipality Council Member Yasemen Çelik, Çanakkale Provincial General Assembly Member Güneş Pehlivan, Altındağ and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Ümit Altuntaş, Uşak Provincial General Assembly Member Ayşegül Obali, representatives of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Delegation, Ministry and UMT representatives attended.
The meetings continued with evaluation of the reports of Denmark, Sweden and the Czech Republic. The future of the Council of Europe and the role of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and also women and children refugees, smart cities and regions, regional identities, human rights and the environment were discussed.
