Uğur İbrahim Altay, Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, who took over the term presidency at the UCLG Board of Directors Meeting held in Seville, Spain on 13-15 June, said, "Today is a very important day for the local governments of our country. We took over the Presidency of United Cities and Local Governments Organization, the largest local government union organized in 7 continents of the world with more than 240 thousand members, in Sevilla. May it be good for our country and our city."

Expressing that they are very happy to be involved as Konya Metropolitan Municipality in the field of local diplomacy in parallel with Türkiye's diplomatic initiative, Mayor Altay said, "Here, we aim to represent our country in the best possible way. We are currently working as UCLG Co-President. Today, with this meeting, we have taken over the presidency as Konya Metropolitan Municipality. Thank you to everyone who supported."

Noting that from now on, they will spend all their work on the development of municipalities in the world and conveying the problems of cities to the world public opinion, Mayor Altay said, "We also held consultations in Sevilla regarding the migration problem our cities are experiencing through the form of global migration. We had the opportunity to express to the whole world that this is a global problem, not a national one, and that our cities especially need new initiatives in financing for immigrants."
