The UCLG-MEWA Congress was held on May 25-27, 2022 hosted by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality. After the first day of updating the Governing Bodies and the Presidency, the Congress continued with thematic sessions.
In the Congress; The UCLG-MEWA Presidency, Committee Presidency and members to represent UCLG-MEWA in the UCLG World Organization Governing Bodies have been renewed.
Mr. Tayseer Abu Sneineh, Mayor of Hebron, was unanimously elected as the UCLG-MEWA President for the 2022-2025 Period.
Fatma Şahin, Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT), has been elected as a member of the Executive Bureau of UCLG World Organization, President of the Committee on Social Inclusion and President of the Committee on Environment. Also Alireza Zakani, Mayor of Tehran Municipality has been elected as the President of the Committee on Smart Cities and Urban Mobility; Musa Hadid, President of the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities has been elected as the President of the Committee on City Diplomacy and Local Governance; Yücel Yılmaz, Mayor of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality has been elected as the President of the Committee on Culture and Tourism and Nidai Güngördü, Mayor of Kyrenia Municipality has been elected as the President of the Committee on Gender Equality.
