The Urban Mobility and Transportation Commission, established within the Union of Municipalities of Turkiye (UMT), met in Istanbul. The Commission conducted technical field visits and examined transportation projects on site.
The UMT Urban Mobility and Transportation Commission met in Istanbul, hosted by the UMT and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department.
The meeting, chaired by Hopa Mayor Utku Cihan, was held at the Istanbul Planning Agency with the participation of mayors, representatives of provincial and district municipalities, relevant affiliates, academics, and civil society organizations. The meeting discussed agenda items such as “Transportation Planning Training” and “Transportation Consulting Services.” Participants also visited the Public Transportation Services Assembly Area, Metro Istanbul's facilities in Esenler, and the Transportation Management Center, gaining the opportunity to observe the city's transportation infrastructure firsthand.
The Commission, which gained technical information about the public transportation system, was presented with the “Park and Ride” transportation experience and bicycle transportation projects in Istanbul. As part of the program, a field visit was conducted regarding the Pedestrianization Project in the Central Business District of Fatih, and the “Hop On, Hop Off” transportation experience was also examined on-site. Following the completion of the field visits, an evaluation meeting was held.
On the second day of the program, the Commission conducted technical visits to important transportation centers. The Commission's first stop was the İETT Fleet Management Center, followed by visits to the Public Transportation Services Accounting Center and the Alibeyköy Logistics Management Center. The final stop of the technical inspection visit, during which information was obtained about the management processes of public transportation systems, was İSBAK in Kağıthane.
The Commission, which received information on smart transportation systems and urban mobility initiatives, conducted a detailed examination of public transportation infrastructure and management models, and evaluated best practice examples on-site.
