ANKARA-

Continuing its support for local governments with the principle of “fair and equal service to all municipalities”, the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (UMT) donated 59 new service vehicles to different municipalities across the country.

Continuing its support for local governments, Union of Municipalities of Turkiye (UMT) donated various service vehicles to 57 different municipalities across the country. Zeydan Karalar, Deputy President of the Union and Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, and MTU Council Members presented the keys to the new service vehicles.

At the ceremony held in Çankaya, Ankara under the presidency of Karalar, 24 garbage trucks, 12 dump trucks, 4 vacuum trucks, 11 diggers, 2 funeral vehicles, 5 road sweepers and 1 dust collector were delivered to the municipalities.

At the ceremony, 31 districts of 19 metropolitan cities, 5 provinces, 13 districts and 8 towns were provided with service vehicles.

“UMT works with a service approach far from polarization and favoritism”

Speaking at the ceremony, Karalar underlined that UMT works for the development of municipalities with a service approach that is free from politics, polarization and favoritism.

Expressing his sadness due to the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the President of the Union, Karalar said, "In this meeting organized by our Union; we are again incomplete, again we are heartbroken and sad. As you know, from the far east to the far west, our friends and mayors are being dismissed on hollow grounds without judicial decisions. I hope our Istanbul Mayor, our brother Ekrem İmamoğlu, who represents 16 million people, and our other mayors will regain their freedom as soon as possible and come back among us. We will continue to serve together."

Noting that as the Union of Municipalities of Turkiye, they continue to support municipalities in line with their needs and demands, Karalar said, "Our friends are working on some very important issues. They will call our municipalities one by one very soon. They are making preparations to meet whatever they need technically, to provide seminars and technical support."

“We are talking to all levels of government to find a solution to the economic difficulties”

Karalar reminded that they started to meet with all levels of the state in search of a solution to the economic difficulties experienced by the municipalities and said, "We explained the current situation of the municipalities. In the current situation, the municipalities are actually not in a position to serve, the economic conditions are very bad, let alone the fact that they are stuck due to the high amount of debt they have taken from the past, even if they do not have any debts, the revenues are now at a level where they can seriously perform their duties.

We need to provide opportunities for mayors to work more comfortably”

Commenting on the recent discussions on local governments, Karalar said:

"Mr. President made a statement indicating that governors and district governors should be more effective on mayors. It is necessary to provide opportunities for mayors to work more comfortably rather than restricting their duties and powers. We see that the success of some mayors and their success in the hearts of the people disturbs some people, but as UMT, we will continue to strive and struggle for this on your behalf."

After his speech, Karalar, together with the UMT Council Members attending the ceremony, presented the keys of the donated vehicles to the mayors and administrators.

The donated vehicles set off to all four corners of Turkiye.
