45 Cities Will Establish Digital Youth Centres

Another important project was implemented by the Union of Municipalities of Turkiye (TBB). The opening meeting of the project titled “Today’s Youth, Future Jobs”, which will be implemented with the European Union financing and the partnership of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), was held in a hotel in Ankara. In addition to President of TBB and Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yücel Yılmaz, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security Lütfihak Alpkan, UNDP Turkey Resident Representative Louisa Vinton, EU Delegation to Turkiye Deputy Head of Cooperation Angel Gutierrez Hidalgo and Directorate for EU Affairs Director-General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation Bülent Özcan and representatives from institutions and organizations attended.

Municipalities will support, youth will learn

With the support of municipalities, the total cost of the project, which includes the establishment of "Digital Youth Centers" in 45 cities, in order to provide a series of trainings that will prepare young people for important future professions such as informatics, robotic coding, e-transformation, digital marketing, social innovation and design, was determined as 7.9 million Euros. With the project, it is aimed to encourage young people to create value-added products in the technology market in order to strengthen their skills within the scope of Industry 4.0 and contribute to smart city solutions.

With the centers planned to be established, more than 200 trainings will reach 4 thousand people, consisting of young people between the ages of 20-29 and students between the ages of 10-19. In addition, a digital e-learning platform will offer blended online learning and training opportunities for young people. 400 young people will be supported by mentoring programs and 95 young people will be supported with internship opportunities and they will be employed. In addition, a center of excellence will be established within the TBB, and regular training will be given to municipal staff on digital skills development.
