CEMR LEADERS SUMMIT AND POLITICAL COMMITTEE MEETING BEGAN İN OSLO
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) Leaders Summit and Political Committee Meeting has officially begun in Oslo, the capital of Norway. On the first day of the two-day program, discussions focused on CEMR’s legal and financial matters, as well as the challenges faced by local and regional governments.
Organized by CEMR, the largest organization representing local and regional authorities in Europe, the Leaders Summit and Political Committee Meeting is being held in Oslo.
The delegation of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT) is led by UMT Vice President and Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Zeydan Karalar. The delegation includes Ayşe Ünlüce, Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality; Ayşe Serra Bucak Küçük, Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality; Bekir Aydın, Mayor of Orhangazi Municipality; Şeniz Doğan, Mayor of Merkezefendi Municipality; Emine Gökçe, Mayor of İhsaniye Municipality; Şenol Kul, Mayor of Terme Municipality; as well as Suat Yıldız, UMT Secretary General, and Dr. Şengül Altan Arslan, Deputy Secretary General.
As part of the program, the UMT delegation attended a reception hosted by the Turkish Ambassador to Oslo, Gülin Dinç. At the reception, discussions were held on strengthening international relations and the increasing influence of cities in shaping the global agenda.
On the first day of the Oslo program, CEMR's role in the changing geopolitical landscape was addressed, with a particular focus on its legal and financial dimensions. Meetings also evaluated the growing challenges faced by local and regional governments in an increasingly unstable global environment.
Within the scope of the summit, UMT Vice President Karalar met with CEMR Co-President and Karlsruhe Regional Administrator Christoph Schnaudigel. The two exchanged ideas on enhancing cooperation and solidarity among local governments across Europe.
UMT Secretary General Suat Yıldız also met with CEMR Secretary General Fabrizio Rossi to discuss current developments in local governance and opportunities for cooperation.
Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR)
The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) is the European section of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and represents the most comprehensive network of local and regional governments in Europe.
Established in 1951 by a group of European mayors, CEMR has a long-standing history. Today, it represents 110,000 local and regional authorities through 60 national associations in 41 countries, including 27 EU member states.
Through its committees and working groups on sustainable local development, environment, transport, international cooperation and partnerships, gender equality, governance, and social solidarity, CEMR effectively lobbies the EU legislative process, protecting the rights and interests of its members and strengthening their political influence.

CEMR is a political organization representing local and regional governments in Europe. Its main decision-making body is the Political Committee, which is composed of elected representatives from local and regional authorities across the continent.
