The Horizon Europe Program organized by the European Union, in line with the priorities of the European Union, determined the fight against climate change and digital transformation among the main priorities of the Programme. In this context, the "100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission Call" was published by the European Commission with the aim of supporting the transformation of 100 cities into climate neutral ecosystems and smart cities by 2030 and that these cities set an example for the transformation of other European cities. This call will allow cities to express their interest in becoming climate neutral by 2030 as part of the Mission, and to provide information on their current status, work in progress and future plans for climate neutrality.
It is important that our cities wishing to apply for the call in question fill in the form on the European Commission's website (https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/CNC-Pre-Registration) by 31 January 2022 at the latest. Our applicant cities/municipalities are expected to meet two eligibility criteria set by the European Commission. The first of these is the requirement that the population of the provincial and district municipalities that will apply for the call is at least 50.000. In addition, in the Information Kit for Cities document published by the European Commission, it is stated that municipalities with a population of more than 100.000, which are especially important in terms of reducing emissions, are preferred. The second eligibility criterion is the applicant's ability to clearly state that he or she has the motivation for the zero emissions target for 2030.
In this context, an online event will be held on Friday, December 24, 2021 at 14.30 with the high-level participation of Directorate for EU Affairs, The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT), to inform our municipalities and interested parties in the light of the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission Call.
