European Mobility Week

    European Mobility Week (EMW) is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. It promotes behavioural change in favour of active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions.

    The main event takes place from 16-22 September each year, culminating in the popular Car-Free Day. Local authorities are encouraged to use the main week to try out innovative planning measures, promote new infrastructure and technologies, measure air quality, and get feedback from the public.

    With more towns and cities joining every year, and with its huge media appeal, the campaign is widely recognised as a driving force towards sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond.

    Sharing the activities held between 16-22 September on social media with the #MobilityWeek, #TBB hashtags to encourage pedestrian and bicycle mobility and raise awareness will enhance visibility.

    Every year, European Mobility Week is organized around a specific theme: 

    • The theme for 2019 is "Safe Walking and Cycling" 

    • the theme for 2020 is "Zero-Emission Mobility for All" 

    • the theme for 2021 is "Sustainable Transport: Healthy and Safe Mobility" 

    • the theme for 2022 is "Better Connections"

    • the theme for 2023 is "Save Energy"

    • the theme for 2024 is "Shared Public Space"

    • and the theme for 2025 is "Mobility for Everyone"

    Participation in the European Mobility Week, which will focus on diverse themes in the next years, will allow our country's municipalities to share knowledge and experience.

    "European Mobility Week Awards" recognise local authorities judged to have done the most to raise awareness of sustainable mobility during EU European Mobility Week (16-22 September).

    Only "Golden Participants" who have signed the Charter are eligible to apply for the awards. Local authorities that complete all three participation criteria: 

    • Organising activities focused on sustainable mobility during the week, 

    • implementing one or more permanent transport measures, 

    • and holding a "Car-Free-Day" are referred to as "Golden participants".

    Municipalities that are "Golden Participants" are eligible to apply for the "European Mobility Week (EMW) Awards" organized by the EU Secretariat, evaluated by an independent jury and awarded by the European Commission.

    In 2022, the EMW Awards will continue to be awarded in one category. The aim of the awards is to recognize successful campaigns and raise awareness of the need for local action in the field of sustainable urban mobility. The awards are intended to encourage successful campaigns and increase knowledge of the impact of local action in the field of sustainable urban transportation.
