There are thousands of active partnership relations among local and regional governments in Europe. These partnerships are not limited to Europe but also extend to other continents. Developed around specific themes, these collaborations involve joint efforts among local governments on shared issues. Globally, the European Union supports approximately 60% of development programs. These supports are provided within the framework of EU-centered programs. For this reason, CEMR has brought together local government representatives under the PLATFORMA initiative to ensure that partnerships are conducted actively and efficiently.
Established in 2008 within CEMR, PLATFORMA has united national, European, and international local government organizations, along with local governments actively involved in this process.
PLATFORMA delivers a unified message to EU institutions, emphasizing Europe’s localized partnerships, activities that support local development, and cooperation with partner countries. It also promotes financial programs by encouraging active participation of local communities in development-focused initiatives. The platform especially facilitates knowledge sharing among local leaders, experts, and other personnel.
