European Mobility Week Actions
Municipalities and cities are warmly invited to participate to participate EMW actions into three categories:
1. Week of Activities
Organising promotion of activities such as cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable mobility, promoting use of public transportation, etc. The celebrations can take any form; from guided walks or bicycle rides to street games to public lectures.
2. Permanent Measures
Implementation or promotion of permanent infrastructures are encouraging municipalities over the past 12 months and promoted during the week of 16-22 September.
3. Car Free Day (22 September)
The week culminates in Car-Free Day, where participating towns and cities set aside one or several areas solely for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport for a whole day.
EMW 2018 had the highest participation rate ever witnessed since its launch in 2002 (2,792 participating towns and cities), surpassing the record set by last year’s campaign. The theme of 2018 defined ‘multimodality’ as “the use of different modes of transport on the same journey”2 for both goods and passengers.
The public organizations, Schools, Universities, Social Clubs and NGOs can share their activities via Mobility Actions in order to promote the idea of sustainable urban mobility. By registering the MobilityAction on this website, these entities can b a part of EMW campaign.
In 2018, 57 Mobility Actions are registered to EMW.
In 2019, 105 activities are taken part in EMW activities within the week.
