
Vahap SEÇER
Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer was born on October 5, 1963, in the Tarsus district of Mersin. He graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Agriculture.
As a young entrepreneur, Vahap Seçer established a business in 1987 and made investments in agricultural production, industry, and trade. He served as a board member and chairman of the companies he founded. Seçer is also a member of industrial and trade chambers representing the business world, as well as a member of the professional chamber as an agricultural engineer.
Seçer served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Tarsus Power Union Foundation, which he founded with the aim of helping to raise modern, secular, and patriotic young people, and was also involved in social projects.
Vahap Seçer served as a CHP Mersin MP for the 23rd and 24th terms between 2007 and 2015. During his term, Seçer was a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee and the Planning and Budget Committee, where he made a mark with his successful work.
Vahap Seçer also developed projects containing solutions to the problems of the city where he was born and raised and was actively involved in these projects and elected as Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality in the March 31, 2019 Local Elections and continues to serve in this position.
In the March 31, 2024 elections, Vahap Seçer was re-elected to this position for the second time with the strong support of the people of Mersin, securing a record vote share, and began continuing his services.
On July 16, 2025, Seçer assumed the role of Deputy President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, taking on important responsibilities to promote the principles of justice, equality, and public interest in local governance across Türkiye.
Vahap Seçer is married with two children and speaks English.
